Advanced Commands
Here's a few more commands you can perform while on
a server, all will help you to download files.
/dccallow
To stop the ongoing outbreak of viruses, many networks will
automatically stop the transfer of ZIP, EXE, and other files that may
potentially carry a virus, little do they know about RAR and ACE archives.
Just kidding. But sometimes when downloading ZIPs of MP3 soundtracks
or just files split into several files, the server will automatically stop
a file if it has the potential to carry a virus, so you need to add them
to your dccallow list. Simply type /dccallow +<nick>, to add
them to your allow list, substituting <nick> with the nickname of the
user. To remove them use a - (minus sign) instead of the + (plus
sign).
/dccserver
Another little annoyance is when a user's server is behind a firewall,
you won't be able to access their files unless you go through specific
ports. To get by you have to tell mIRC to listen through specific
ports since the server will be going through those ports (instead of 59,
the default). To do that type, /dccserver +sc-f on ##, where
## is the port number the server is requesting, they'll typically list it
in a notice. The +sc enables sends and chats through the port, and
the -f disables the fileserver through it. Your computer will see
the fileserver as a chat (not a fileserver actually). The fileserver
option applies if you are serving.
@find, @locator
Something some channels love and others hate. Becareful when
using these commands because some channels don't allow it. Basically
it's a search engine so you don't have to. To use it type @find
<search item> or @locator <search item>. Some fileservers
will respond if its enabled on their server. Results are typically
sparse and depends on your luck sometimes. Read the channel rules
before blindly typing these commands in.
There's more, but that's for you to learn on your own.
Next is more things for getting files.
